Clare M. Ferguson

Mrs. Clare M. Ferguson entered into eternal rest on December 12, 2025. Clare had just celebrated her 90th birthday in early November with most of her family, including her nieces, and nephews!

Clare was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on November 10, 1935 to Leon J. Thompson Sr. and Marie (Coffey) Thompson. She grew up in Philadelphia and that is where she met her loving husband, Bill Ferguson. They married in 1958 and moved to Washington DC, eventually settling in West Laurel, Maryland where they raised their four children. In 2020, Clare and Bill moved to the Residences at Vantage Point in Columbia, Maryland.

Clare was a daughter, a sister, a mother, a grandmother, and a great-grandmother. She was a preschool teacher for the City of Laurel for over 25 years, she taught CCD at St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church, and she was an election judge, serving as Chief Judge for many years. Clare was appointed to the Board of Trustees for Prince George's Community College and held several terms as its president. She helped many local politicians with successful election campaigns, and worked in Annapolis at the State House.

Clare and Bill loved to travel and visited many different parts of the country and the world, with Hawaii being one of her favorite places. Another favorite was the family trips to the Outer Banks of North Carolina which began in 1972 and have continued through this past summer where Clare enjoyed a week in August.

Clare had a deep devotion to her family and treasured the time she spent with them, she will be greatly missed. She is survived by her four children, Bill Ferguson (Sandy); John Ferguson (Jennifer); Clare Marie Pope (Greg); Patti Fisher (Scott); 9 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren (with number 12 on the way); her brother Leon J. Thompson Jr.(Polly); brother-in-law Barry Ferguson, and several nieces and nephews.

In death, Clare is reunited with her husband Bill, her mother Marie (whom she lost at age 17), her father Leon, and all of her other loved ones who went before her.

Clare's funeral will take place at St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church in Laurel, Maryland on Saturday, January 10th with visitation at 10:00 AM followed by a funeral mass at 11:00 AM.
