Curtis Crawford, son of the late Robert Crawford and Ethel Tolbert Crawford and the grandson of the late Charlotte Christopher Watson and the late Ben Tolbert, quietly departed this life Wednesday, January 25, 2017 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Hospital in Charlotte Hall, Maryland. He was born February 3, 1935 in Greenwood, South Carolina and made his home in Landover, Maryland. He attended the public schools of Greenwood County and served in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1957 as a fuel supply specialist. He was an avid member of the American Legion. For twenty years until retirement he worked as a painter for Walter Reed Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and served as a union representative there for a number of years. After retirement, he ran his own painting business for a number of years. He loved to cook-out, dance and search for antiques.
He was married to the late Carrie Neal Hackett Crawford of Greenwood, South Carolina. This union was blessed with three children.
He was preceded in death by a son Curtis Crawford, Jr.; four sisters, Rose Ella Fletcher and Eva Posey of Washington, D.C. and Blanche Chappell and Mary Frances Aiken of Greenwood, South Carolina; three brothers - James L. Crawford of Washington, D.C.; Lloyd Crawford and Leroy Crawford of Greenwood, South Carolina.
He is survived by two children, Robert Crawford of the home and Carrie Crawford of Laurel, Maryland; two grandchildren: Rachel Crawford Grubbs of Los Angeles, California; Jomo Crawford of Laurel, Maryland and one brother, Floyd Crawford of Greenwood, South Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
