Danny Joe Snare, affectionately known as "Chief," passed away on December 1, 2025, at the age of 90 in Columbia, Maryland. Born on April 14, 1935, in Colorado and raised in North Platte, Nebraska, Danny's life was a tapestry woven with laughter, love, and service to his nation.
A proud Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America, Danny embraced the values of leadership and dedication from a young age. In 1953, he joined the Navy, embarking on a journey that would define his career and spirit. Retiring in 2004 after 21 years of dedicated service, he held the rank of Chief and cherished his time spent traveling to far-off places such as Alaska, the Philippines, Okinawa, the U.S.S. Toledo, Fort Meade, and Washington, DC.
Danny’s humor was infectious, and he was loved by all who crossed his path. His altruistic nature shone through in every interaction, as he was a nurturing and dependable friend, always ready with a helping hand and a hearty laugh. He was someone who could light up a room, bringing joy and comfort to those around him.
In June 1955, Danny married the love of his life, Colleen Snare. Their union lasted for an incredible 70 years, a testament to their deep bond and unwavering support for one another.
Beyond his distinguished military career and loving family life, Danny enjoyed various hobbies that reflected his vibrant personality. He relished bowling, immersed himself in sports as a devoted fan of the Washington Nationals and Washington Redskins, nurtured beautiful gardens, displayed his culinary skills, and delighted in square dancing with Colleen.
Danny is survived by his beloved wife, Colleen; two daughters, Melody and Penny (David); six grandchildren: Stephen, Andrew, Ryan, Craig, Patrick, and Christina; and 14 great-grandchildren. He joins in eternal rest his parents, Carter and Margaret Mann Snare; three brothers: Edward, Robert "Bob," and Gary Snare; and two sisters: Margie Scolfield and Patty Snare.
As we remember Danny Joe Snare, we celebrate a life lived to the fullest—full of laughter, devoted service, and boundless love. His memory will continue to shine in the hearts of all who knew him, reminding us that a life filled with kindness and joy can leave a lasting impact on the world. Rest in peace, dear Chief. You will be deeply missed.
