David R.P. Verdone

October 22, 1961 — January 14, 2022

This obituary was lovingly written and submitted by the family.

David R.P. Verdone, age 60, passed away in Frederick, Maryland on Friday, January 14, 2022.

He was born October 22, 1961 in Baltimore, Maryland, son of Patrick H. Verdone and Mary E. (Johnson) Verdone.  David spent the younger years of his life in Adelphi, Maryland and later was a long time resident of Mt. Airy, Maryland.  David worked as a soil scientist for 32 years for the US Department of Agriculture (Natural Resources Conservation Service).  David participated in “Dig It” which was an exhibition at the Smithsonian Natural History Museum (https://naturalhistory.si.edu/exhibits/diy/dig-it).

Dave was a gentle giant, a simple soul, humble man with a huge heart.  He always tried to see the best in everyone and would jump at the opportunity to help or do anything for anyone.

David loved his family, his job, deer hunting, smoking/barbecuing meats, listening to older country music, line dancing, playing darts, and cooking.  He was a big teddy bear who always carried a pocket knife; he hated dull knives and would sharpen the dull knives when he visited family members.  He was also the go-to at family gatherings for carving the turkey or ham.  His boss mentioned David loved his job and showed up every day ready to share his knowledge about soils.

David is survived by his brother, Donald P Verdone, his sister, Joyce L White, his nephews, Robert P White (Amanda), Ryan L White, his niece Reagan White, and several aunts, uncles and cousins. David was preceded in death by his parents Patrick H. Verdone and Mary L. Verdone (Johnson), along with his sister Julia L.A. Verdone and his dog, Kyle.

Visitation will be held at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A., 313 Talbott Ave, Laurel, MD 20707 on Thursday, January 27, 2022 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.  The funeral service will be the following day, Friday, January 28, 2022 in the Donaldson Funeral Home’s chapel at 12:00 pm.  A graveside service will immediately follow the conclusion of the funeral service at Union Cemetery in Burtonsville, MD.  Relatives and friends are welcome to join the family Friday, January 28, 2022 at 2:00 PM at Ashton United Methodist Church, 17314 New Hampshire Ave, Ashton, MD 20861 for a reception.
