David "Dave" Wayne Walser

David “Dave” Wayne Walser passed away on Thursday, July 7, 2022 at the age of 83, from a long battle with COVID-19. Despite the challenges, Dave was optimistic and stayed strong until the end.

Originally from Faith, North Carolina, Dave met the love of his life, Sara “Sally” (Ervin), while in a club in Washington, DC. Dave asked Sally to dance and that is the beginning of the love story. They married September 19, 1970 and were married for 50+ years. Deeply in love and inseparable, they would actively seek out adventures and looked forward to a long and happy life.

Prior to attending the University of Maryland where he earned his Bachelors in Engineering, Dave honorably served four years in the United States Navy. Later in his career, he completed his Masters from George Washington University.

Dave was a man of few words but when he did speak, it was impactful.

Dave was known for being incredibly passionate about his work as an engineer for NASA Goddard. He created many innovations and received many awards and accolades from his work. He finally retired with 45+ years of service in 2007.

When not at work, Dave loved spending time with his family. From the various family trips, to coaching soccer teams, being the best dance dad, his daughters could have, Boy Scouts, and 4-H.

Dave is survived by his wife, Sara, their two daughters, Melinda and Jennifer; granddaughter Elizabeth, as well as extended family, friends, and coworkers he touched during his life time, who loved him dearly. He was predeceased by his son, Daniel; brothers, Bryant, John and sister, Phyllis; and his parents: Ferris Bryant and Elizabeth McCombs Walser.

Visitation will be held at Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave, Laurel, MD 20707 on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 from 2:00pm to 4:00pm and 6:00pm to 8:00pm. A short service will be held Wednesday, July 13, 2022, 11am following a burial ceremony will be held at Ivy Hill Cemetery.
