Deirdre Keating Vogel, 69, of Millsboro, DE passed away peacefully in her sleep on February 16, 2024 after a long battle with cancer.
She was born in 1955 to John Joseph Keating, Jr. and Joan McGowan Keating in Washington, D.C. as the oldest of six. Deirdre attended Oxon Hill High School before studying nursing at the University of Maryland, and continuing on to work for more than 30 years as a nurse with the University of Maryland Medical System.
Deirdre lived her life in service to others - both in her professional service as a nurse, as well as through the kindness, compassion, and empathy she showed to everyone that she encountered. She was a truly beautiful person, down to her very soul.
Deirdre was also highly creative and put her heart and soul into every project she started. Her creative spirit lives on in the jewelry and ceramics she lovingly crafted for friends and family, as well as through the crafting supplies she sold so that other creative spirits could express what was in their souls through art.
She is survived by her husband Dale Vogel, her children Crystal Muehleisen and Timothy Shifflett, her grandchildren Brianna Shifflett, Matthew Shifflett, Desmond Muehleisen, and Phoebe Muehleisen, her brother Peter Keating, her sisters Tara Woods and Joan Keating, and countless others whose lives she touched in profound ways.
She was preceded in death by her son Calvin Shifflett III, her parents John Keating, Jr. and Joan Keating, and her brothers John Keating III and Terence Keating. A viewing will be held at Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. in Laurel, MD on Friday, February 23, 2024 from 5-8 PM. A celebration of life will take place shortly after. More details to follow.
