Dmitri Sergei Brown (aka “BJ”) was the proud father of three wonderful children, and he was a talented Senior Systems Engineer. He suddenly departed this life on December 28, 2024, while visiting family in Laurel, MD. He is survived by his three adult children (Zoe, Corey, and Kya Brown) and precious fur baby, Remy, sisters (Monica and Donna Brown), in-laws (notably, Shawn Lucas, Cindy Lucas, Gene Jones and Tineka Young), loving nieces and nephews (notably, William, Jersia, Cydney, and KaeLee), several great nieces and nephews, a devoted friend (Rod Taylor), and a host of other loving family members, and friends. Dmitri was born on June 3, 1966, in Washington, DC, to parents Raymond and JoAnn Brown. Dmitri grew up in New York and Maryland. He was married to Tracy Brown for 25 years during which they had their three children and settled into life in Montgomery County, MD. Dmitri’s love for all things “Information Technology” led him to a career as a Senior Systems Engineer and CEO of a computer engineering and consulting business. Dmitri’s childhood can pretty much be summed up by two words: electronics freak. He loved to assemble and dismantle things, and his room seemed to always be full of wiring and devices in various stages of structure. In fact, this love for fixing things empowered him to fix ALL things around the house, even if his skill set wasn’t sufficient for the repair. This often left his wife pining for a professional to fix his faults. Dmitri loved his kids deeply and was so happy when he and his wife started their family. He was so ecstatic after the eldest, Zoe, was born - he couldn’t bear to wait too long for another child. In fact, he couldn’t help but make jokes in the hospital about having to assist in the delivery of his beloved twins due to the physician taking too long to deliver Corey and Kya into this world. Dimitri never hesitated to brag about his children and made sure his friends knew how proud he was of them. A few years ago, Dmitri relocated to North Carolina with his daughter, Kya, to pursue a promising job opportunity and a fresh start in life. Although he took this leap of faith to move many miles from the place he initially established his roots, it didn’t stop him from traveling between the states to remain connected to his other two kids, Zoe & Corey. Perhaps Dmitri’s passing while in Maryland was God’s way of ensuring he would be near everyone and everything that were essential parts of his life for so long. Dmitri's sense of humor was often mentioned by friends and family and was a big piece of his personality that we all will always miss. He would do things like send his sister, Donna, a selfie while on his way to work asking her to share the “eye candy” with the ladies in her office. She always thought this random gesture was hilarious and would actually share the picture with a couple of colleagues familiar with Dmitri and her stories over the years about him and his family. Perhaps their close birthdays in June and July made this private joke forever endearing. Zoe captured on video Remy in a pink, frilly sweater, snooping around the kitchen counter, and Dmitri’s response to this was “maybe she was looking for a pair of scissors to cut that sweater off!” And one of his daughters got their nails done by his niece, Cydney, and very proudly displayed them to their dad, to which he replied “Oh, were her eyes closed?”. He coined the term “Lucas- Mentality” specifically for his brother-in-law, Shawn, who is well-known for his interesting, opinion-based “facts”. Although Dimitri is no longer with us in the physical world, the spirit of his humor continues to live on throughout all three of his children, who characteristically share the same sense of humor. While true friendships can be hard to find and maintain, Dmitri had a deep and caring friendship with his brother-in-law, Shawn, over the course of his adult life. They met while Shawn was dating his ex-wife (Cindy) and became life-long friends after that. In fact, Shawn’s presence in Dmitri’s life was a nice combination of brother-in-law comradery, confidante, and spiritual linchpin. Rod Taylor and Dimitri had a special brotherly bond as well, often connecting over shared interest and personal milestones. Although it is commonly believed that death gives life meaning, losing someone you love is never easy or natural. Dmitri will be deeply missed by those who knew him best and passed away knowing how much he was loved and honored by his children, family, friends, and colleagues. Hopefully family and friends will find comfort in knowing that he is at rest and will forever be fondly remembered as a devoted dad, a silly brother, a good friend, and decent human being. We encourage you to go to Dmitri’s page and share a favorite moment or sentiment. Funeral services are taking place on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. in Laurel, MD.
