Donald J. Reitz, PhD died July 2, after a long illness.  He spent forty -six years educating teachers at Loyola University.  Doctor Reitz was educated at the former St Charles College, Catonsville, and St. Mary's Seminary and University, Roland Park, where he also taught.  He received his Masters degree in Philosophy from Catholic University, Washington, D.C. and was awarded his Doctor of Philosophy from Johns Hopkins University in 1964.

In 1970 Dr. Reitz was named the first Director of the Graduate Division at Loyola and helped guide the beginning stages of the graduate programs in Business,( now the Sellinger School of Business), and Psychology.  In 1976 Doctor Reitz took a three year leave of absence from Loyola to become the first lay superintendent of schools for the Archdiocese of Baltimore.  He authored three books, one translated into Italian, and published numerous articles.  He belonged to many organizations in education, primarily School Law which was his expertise.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy Doyle Reitz and five children, and his brother, Rev. Louis Reitz, P.S.S.
