Doris Marie (Slater) Chaney, age 85, of Savage, widow of Curtis Lee Chaney, passed away on 14 November 2013.
She was born in Savage on Jan. 29, 1928, to Morris Carroll Slater and Virgie Marie (Baldwin) Slater. She graduated from Elkridge High School, worked briefly as a telephone operator at Ft. Meade during WWII, and at the U.S. Naval Yard in Washington D.C. with her father. She married Curtis Lee Chaney in 1946 and was a founding member of the Savage Boys Club and Mothers Auxiliary. After raising their two children she started her career with the US Postal Service at the Savage Post Office. She retired after 19 years of service to focus her attention to her four grandchildren. Doris was avid sports fan especially the Orioles, Baltimore Colts, Ravens, and NASCAR. She contributed to the Savage Methodist Church strawberry festivals and bazaars. She enjoyed crocheting baby apparel and toys for many friends and family. Coming from a long line of Slater's and Baldwin's of Savage, she continued the proud legacy of being a life long Savage resident.
She is survived by her two children Terry Lee Chaney and Melinda Chaney Farnsworth and their spouses Donna Chaney and Kenneth Farnsworth. Lovingly known as Gran-Gran she is also survived by her four grandchildren Taylor Chaney Kirker, Curtis Ronald Chaney, Kerry Grace Chaney and Brooks Joseph Chaney.
