Dorothy Marguerite Gilbride

February 27, 1926 — September 17, 2014

Dorothy Marguerite Gilbride passed away on September 17. 2014 at her home in Laurel, Maryland. She was born on February 27, 1926 in New Midway, Frederick County, Maryland, to the late Harvey Keeney and Lena Holtz. She is survived by her devoted husband, R. James Gilbride whom she met 40 years ago when they both worked in the Montgomery County school system. In their early years of dating and marriage, they both immensely enjoyed listening to music and dancing. They both loved spending time with friends and family for all those 40 years.
She is also survived by her five children: Ruth Mehaffie and her husband, James; Dorothy Seabolt; Maurice Boone, Jr. and his longtime companion, Jaime Boswell; Steven Boone; Jerry Boone and his wife, Elaine. Mrs. Gilbride will be remembered by her family as a compassionate and loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She has seven surviving grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Additionally, she is survived by her two half brothers, Harvey and Paul Keeney and a half sister, Betty Moser. She is preceded in death by her first husband, Maurice L. Boone; and two brothers, Charles and Luther Keeney.
She worked outside of the home for many years. In her teen years before marriage and children, she worked in a shoe factory in Westminster, MD. After the children were older, she worked in retail sales at the former Grant department store in Rockville; then worked at a couple of Montgomery County elementary school cafeterias as manager and cook; and later at Peoples Drug store/CVS in Burtonsville. Upon retiring, she became a "super" full-time homemaker in her household with her husband, her son, two grandchildren, a dog and two cats, and fish; and even took up babysitting neighbors' children. She is survived by these two grandchildren who she lovingly and patiently raised: Jennifer Boone and Steven Woodson-Boone. One of the children she use to babysit for has grown up and become an endearing household member and helper who also survives her: C.J. Tarran. Her other grandchildren who survive her are Keith Mehaffie, Glenn Mehaffie, Roger Seabolt, Michael Boone, and Jaira Boone; the surviving great grandchildren are Danielle, Keith Jr, and Shannon Mehaffie; Amanda Seabolt; Rebecca Johnson and Taylor Brown.
She and her husband, James, enjoyed taking trips to the Chesapeake Bay area and Scranton, PA, to visit friends and relatives. Every holiday for many years, she laid out an extravagant meal and invited family members to share in eating and catching up on the latest happenings in everyone's life. On occasion, she and her husband hosted a crab feast, which was a favorite get-together for family and friends. She lived a full, busy life and is remembered and loved by many. We thank her for loving us all, with our quirks and all.
