Douglas P. Connell

Douglas Palmerlea Connell, , age 96, of Seaford, DE, died Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at his residence in Seaford, DE.

Mr. Connell was born and raised in Burtonsville, MD and moved to the Guilford area of Howard County at the age of 7. He attended Laurel High School from the years of 1930-1934. Doug started his own Building/Construction business, Connell Construction, in 1949 and continued building houses and pools until 1985.

He attended Alberta Gary United Methodist Church in Guilford from the age of 7 until moving to the Eastern Shore in 2007.

Doug enjoyed flying and held his pilot's license from 1951-1978 and then again from 1994-2003. He also enjoyed traveling around the country in his motorhome.

He was the son of the late Ernest Connell and the late Mabel Renn Connell. Doug was married to Evelyn J. Allen from 1940 until she passed away in 1992. Doug is survived by his wife; Diana L. Connell, whom he married on June 9, 2007. Doug is survived by his daughter, Charlotte E. Connell and her husband James Marquardt of Winchester, VA, his granddaughter Chloe Matthes of Sterling, VA, his great grandchildren Sophie Matthes and Logan Matthes of Sterling, VA. Mr. Connell is also survived by his step-son James Dardas of Seaford, DE, and a step-granddaughter Ashley Jones of Seaford, DE and a step-great grandson Austin Jones of Seaford, DE. Mr. Connell will also be missed by his two dear friends and caregivers; Barbara Bull and Bea Williams.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 8, 2013 from 6:00-9:00 PM at the DONALDSON FUNERAL HOME, P.A., 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD 20707. Funeral services will be held in the funeral home's chapel on Monday, December 9, 2013 beginning at 1:00 PM. Interment will be at Meadowridge Memorial Park, Elkridge, MD

If desired memorial donations may be made in Doug's name to Alberta Gary United Methodist Church, 9405 Guilford Road, Columbia, MD 21046.
