Edna C. Harding

May 5, 1919 — January 27, 2018

Edna Harding, 98, of Laurel, passed away January 27, 2018. Born on May 5, 1919, in Washington, DC, she was the daughter of the late Edward Otto and Mary Fenton Lehmann.

Edna graduated from Laurel High School. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Post 60 and held various jobs from a nurse’s aide, a helper at the Warren clinic, and a dress buyer at the Vogue Dress Shop, to a bookkeeper at Citizens National Bank, and a school volunteer.

Throughout the years, her yard was filled with family and friends for summer picnics, her front porch was the spot for impromptu gatherings, and her home was full of adopted pets. She even served as the neighborhood and family barber. Edna was also a skilled storyteller of Laurel history and loved sharing little known facts as well as pictures. In addition, she enjoyed knitting, drawing, painting, cooking, baking, spending time with her family, and many, many hours of watching Walker Texas Ranger. Always on the go, some of her favorite outings included lunch with niece Carol for Rueben sandwiches at Ma’s Kettle. But most of all, Edna was well-known for her knitted baby outfits and world-class pies, raisin bread, cinnamon rolls, and potato salad. And, she always had a pot of coffee ready for visitors.

She is survived by her children, Richard (Celina), Mary, David (Darlene), and Linda (Jim). She is also survived by 11 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family members and friends who love her and will miss her greatly. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Milton Harding, her brother, Edward A. Lehmann, and her sister, Mary Lehmann Cornwell.

The family will receive friends from 12:00pm – 1:00pm on Saturday, February 17, 2018, at the Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave, Laurel, MD 20707. A celebration of Edna’s life will begin at 1:00pm. Interment will follow at Ivy Hill Cemetery.
