Elizabeth Alice Balaba,

November 19, 1938 -January 3, 2026

Beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend passed away on January 3, 2026 at the age of 87.

Elizabeth is survived by her children, Angela, Bryan, (Madina), and Betty, grandchildren Sarah, Sophia and Samantha, siblings James, Byrd, Grace, Margaret, Lillian, David, Fred and John, many nieces and nephews and extended family.

A loving, matriarch and devoted nurse Elizabeth will be remembered for her kind heart, strength and generosity.

She started her nursing career in Bristol, England and practiced as a midwife at Frenchay Hospital later moving to Princess Tsehay Hospital in Ethiopia. She enthusiastically pursued advances in her career and became a nursing sister at the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in Queen Square, London. Where she worked until she retired. In the latter part of her retirement, she moved to the US to be closer to her children and grandchildren.

She had a mischievous streak and an avid love for cooking. Her family and friends will remember her warm smile and kind spirit.

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM on Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Forcey Bible Church in Silver Spring, MD.
