May 22, 1946 — January 16, 2023

Bethesda

Elizabeth (Libby) Roberta Waite, age 76, passed away in Bethesda, Maryland on January 16, 2023 after a two-year battle with colon cancer.

Libby was born on May 22, 1946 in Cornwall, New York; daughter of Robert G.I. Waite and Lovena (Campbell) Waite.  Libby is survived by sisters Katherine Newman and Barbara Riffle.  Libby was preceded in death by her sister Lovena Atwell.  Libby lived in Wheaton, MD.

Libby graduated from Wheaton High School in 1964.  After receiving an Associates in Science Degree from Montgomery College in 1972 Libby pursued a career in catering.  Libby had good problem-solving skills and decided to change career paths and pursue administrative positions where her skills were put to good use.  Libby worked as an office manager for various companies before she found her true calling at the US Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).  Libby worked as an administrator at HUD until she retired in 2016.

Libby had many interests to include baking, crocheting, and genealogy.  Her baking specialties were her pumpkin and pecan pies.  Libby loved to crochet and won many prizes at the Montgomery County Fair for her beautiful afghans, ornaments, and doll dresses. She acquired a passion for genealogy from her sister Lovena and traced her family’s genealogy back to the 1700s. Libby loved animals and befriended her neighborhood cats, dogs, squirrels, and birds.

Libby will be remembered for her unique outlook on life, for the funny tales of her adventures, and her generosity to those around her.

A grave site service will be held in the Spring.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to an animal rescue of your choice.
