Eugene Joseph Stello

January 22, 1959 — March 30, 2016

Eugene Joseph Stello passed away on Wednesday, March 30, 2016 at the University of Maryland Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie, MD.

Eugene was born on January 22, 1959 to the late Francis Stello and the late Alice (nee Curtin) Stello. He grew up in Hyattsville, MD and attended St. Mary’s  Landover Hills, DeMatha High School, and received his Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Maryland. Gene worked in the I.T. field for Arbitron, Marriott, and most recently with the State of Maryland.

Gene lived in Severn, MD and was very active in the Provinces neighborhood. He served many years on the Board of Directors of the Provinces Civic Association, holding the position of President from July 2007–June 2013. Gene patrolled as a member of the Provinces Security Patrol and participated in the annual Easter egg hunts and Santa visits for the children.

When he wasn’t at home or work, Gene could be found on the water. Whether it was bass fishing with friends and family or sailing on one of his many cruises, he found pure joy in the sea. He will lovingly be remembered for his many stories about cruising, lounging at the Atrium bar, and frequenting Señor Frogs.

Gene is survived by his girlfriend, Laura O’Lexey, sister Valerie Stello, and brother Michael Stello. He is also survived by sister-in-law Thérèse Stello, nieces Bryna (and her husband Nick) Colley & Mary (and her husband Brad) Welch, along with great niece and nephews Brady & Lana Welch and Grant & Drew Colley, and numerous other family members. Eugene was preceded in death by his brother Scott Stello.

Funeral mass will be held at 11am, Saturday, April 16 at St. Lawrence Martyr Parish, 2815 Jessup Rd., Jessup, MD with reception immediately following. A burial ceremony for immediate family and friends will be held at 11am, Monday, April 18 at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1300 Bladensburg Rd. NE, Washington, DC.
