Evan J. Powell

On Saturday, January 6th, 2018, at the age of 82, Evan J. Powell passed away peacefully at Heartlands Assisted Living under the excellent care of Gilchrist Hospice.  His devoted wife, Margaret, of 62 years was by his side.

Evan was born in Shamokin, PA on July 23, 1935 to William and Margaret Powell. Evan is predeceased by his twin brother, John, sister Margaret Mary and his son-in-law, Nelson Van Dusen.

He is survived by his sister, Delores of Danville, PA.

He is also survived by 4 children, Anne Yedowitz (Jim), David Powell, Mary Lou Van Dusen,and Edward Powell (Susan), 6 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren who will miss “Papa Evan” very much!  He will be missed by his sister and brother-in-law, loving nieces and nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.

Evan proudly served our country in the US Air Force for 26 years, retiring in 1979 in Watertown, NY.  He continued his strong work ethic over the next 25 years in many capacities – finally retiring in Laurel, MD.

No matter where he worked or lived he was loved by all those who were blessed by his smile and sense of humor.

Evan was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Mills Parish for over 20 years and proudly served as a Eucharistic Minister for many of those years.

Evan valued God, family and country and we were blessed to learn these values by his example.  He will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know him.
