Evelyn Geraldine Curry

Evelyn Geraldine Curry, age 82, passed away peacefully on July 29, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of love, dedication, and vibrant memories. Born on July 22, 1944, in Baltimore City, Maryland.

Evelyn was the beloved daughter of the late John Johnson and Dorothy Franklin. 

She received her education through the Baltimore City Public Schools, laying the foundation for a lifetime of hard work and commitment. Evelyn dedicated more than 30 years of her professional life to the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. Working as a team leader in the check processing department, her leadership and diligence earned her a well-deserved retirement. 

Beyond her professional achievements, Evelyn embraced life with open arms and a curious mind. She was an avid reader who loved getting lost in books, and she held a deep appreciation for classic stories, frequently spending her time watching old movies and television shows. 

Travel was another of her great passions; she explored the world with an adventurous spirit, taking memorable trips to Aruba, the Dominican Republic, Mexico, and across Asia. Above all, Evelyn enjoyed good food and cherished moments spent sharing a meal, especially when it involved her favorite treat: Maryland steamed crabs. 

Evelyn’s first marriage was to Matthew Smith. Later in life, she married Mark Curry, and from that matrimonial union, they welcomed their son, Mark Curry II. 

Evelyn was preceded in death by her loving brother, Alfonzo Johnson Sr., and her beloved son, Wynwood Curry Sr. She leaves to cherish her memory and mourn her passing her devoted sons, Dante Gamble and Mark Curry II. She also leaves Elizabeth Zeledon, the mother of Donovan and Briana, whom Evelyn loved deeply like her very own daughter. Her legacy lives on through her grandchildren: Tomeka Curry, Markita Curry, Towanda Curry, Maya Curry, Wynwood Curry Jr., Damien Curry, and Donovan and Briana Gamble, along with a host of extended family members and friends who will miss her dearly.
