On Wednesday, April 18, Evelyn Landis Lackey went home to be with her Savior Jesus Christ. She resided at Asbury United Methodist Village at 419 Russell Avenue, Gaithersburg, MD. She was 94 years old. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, Joseph Franklin Lackey. They had four sons, Joseph, Thomas, Raymond, and Wayne. She had one grandson, eight granddaughters and one great-grandson.
She was born February 6, 1918 in Plumstead Township, Bucks County, PA to Leidy and Naomi Landis. She grew up on the family farm with two brothers and two sisters, graduated from West Chester University with a degree in Education, and later earned her master's degree in Education at the University of Maryland. She taught for 40 years, 22 years in Prince George's County, MD. She retired in 1980 and enjoyed many years of globetrotting, visiting all seven continents. She also travelled to all 50 states and all of the National Parks in the United States.
She was an active member at Laurel Presbyterian Church until she moved to Asbury in Gaithersburg.
Friends and family will be received on Sunday, April 22 between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m., and between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A., 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD. The funeral service will be held Monday April 23 at Laurel Presbyterian Church, 7610 Old Sandy Spring Road, Laurel, MD at 10:00 a.m. A graveside service will immediately follow at Meadowridge Memorial Park, 7250 Washington Blvd. at Dorsey Road, Elkridge, MD.
Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society and the American Diabetes Association.
