Everett Lee Redmiles

Longtime Laurel resident Everett Lee Redmiles died on Sunday July 18, 2021. He was 79. Everett died at the home he shared with his beloved wife Jean (Watt) Redmiles for most of their 56-year marriage. He was surrounded by family and under the care of hospice after valiantly battling his Juvenile Diabetes (Type 1) for 68 years.

Everett was born and lived in Howard County with his late parents Lester and Gladys (Brown) Redmiles, his brother and four sisters, until moving to Laurel in 1961. He met Jean, his neighbor and his sister Gloria’s good friend and they married in 1965, and raised three sons, Craig Everett (Kim), Brent Lee (Michelle) and Keith Andrew (Michele). For most of their married life, Jean and Everett worked to renovate the fixer upper that they bought in Laurel. Their sons were also integral in the work and gained lifelong skills from working alongside their dad. The family grew happily with the marriages of Michelle to Brent, Michele to Keith, and Kim to Craig. The grandchildren, Katlyn Marie, Jordan Josephine, Christopher Ross and Taylor Anne have been truly adored by their Papa and Mama as they call them, and have brought great joy to the family.

Everett worked most of his career for the DC Government where he was a Bridge Inspector. During his time there he worked on many projects, including the building of the Whitehurst Freeway. Everett was known for his integrity, his knowledge and talent, his determination that things be done safely and correctly, his dedication to the project, and his sense of humor.

Everett was part of a warm, wonderful, close family and enjoyed spending time with his siblings and his extended family including many nieces, nephews, and their children and grandchildren throughout his life. He and Jean loved their trips with his sister Millie and her husband Reid. Sadly, Millie is Everett’s only surviving sibling.

Everett was predeceased by his brother Lester (Sonny) Redmiles (Naomi) and his older sister Shirley and her husband Peter Motel. The year 2021 has been rough for the Redmiles family. In February Everett lost his youngest sister Gloria (Kenny) Rogers. And just two days before his death, his oldest sister Mary, known to the family as Esther, passed away. But the love of the Redmiles family continues into the next generations.
