Florence Kenny

Florence Kenny died peacefully in the comfort of her home in Laurel, Maryland with family at her side. From her childhood in Bayonne, New Jersey, to her passing, she was known to all for her sense of adventure, her love of her family, and her unwavering faith in God.

Beloved wife of John J. “Jack” Kenny for 62 years.  Loving mother of Maureen Kenny; Joan (Michael) O’Rourke; and Denise (Keith) Kulper. Adored grandmother of Michael J. O’Rourke III and wife, Elizabeth Richardson; Eileen (O’Rourke) Michael and husband, Bill; Nora Kenny-Houser; Sloan Kulper and wife, Gahyee Tsui; and Kendall (Kulper) Toniatti and husband, Dave.  Doting great-grandmother of Sally, Helena (Nell) and Harrison Michael; John (Jack) and William (Lan) O’Rourke; and Iris and Florence (Flora) Toniatti.  She was predeceased by her husband, Jack; her brother, John; her parents, John and Florence and her beloved Aunts Sally and Nelly.

Florence’s family extends their gratitude to Florence’s wonderful caregivers – Milly, Eva, Maria, Gladiz, and Manuela.

Florence was a parishioner of St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church for 62 years, active in the Ladies of Charity, St. Mary’s Elementary School and Pallotti High School activities.  She retired from Goddard Space Flight Center having completed 36 years of federal service.  She was a member of Laurel Senior Friendship Club from inception, and led members on trips throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia.  She was an exceptional seamstress and avid gardener.

On Monday, April 16, 2018, friends may visit with the family from 10AM until Mass of Christian burial at 11AM at St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church, 114 St Mary’s Pl, Laurel, MD 20707.  Burial will immediately follow.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Florence’s name to St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church.
