Frederick L. Kurrle

Frederick L. Kurrle (Fred), age 88, passed away in Baltimore, Maryland on September 6, 2025.

Born August 7, 1939 in Caldwell, New Jersey, Son of Frederick and Louise (Bopple) Kurrle. He lived in Laurel, Maryland and worked in research for Westvaco Corporation for 40 years until retiring in 2002. Fred was a member of  New Hope Lutheran Church in Columbia, MD since about 1994 and assisted with the landscaping there until he was in his early 80s.

Fred served in the US Army Reserve for 6 years, including 6 months of active duty, after graduating from University of Maine with a Bachelor’s Degree in Forestry and Master’s Degree in Pulp and Paper.

Fred is survived by his wife of 60 years, Vicki (Toler) Kurrle, children: Janis Kurrle, Patricia (Kurrle) Sekela (Ken Paschke, Patricia’s partner) and Billy Kurrle, grandchildren: Mercy Thompson, Kayla Davis and Tori Sekela - all daughters of Patricia Sekela and great-granddaughter: Rae Orlandi (daughter of Mercy Thompson).

Fred was preceded in death by his parents, Frederick and Louise (Bopple) Kurrle, brother, Robert (Bob) Kurrle, nephew, Michael Castle and former son-in-law, Michael Sekela.

Viewing will be held at Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. in Laurel, MD on Thursday, September 18, 2025 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM. The funeral will be at New Hope Lutheran Church in Columbia, MD on Friday, September 19, 2025 at 11:00 AM. Interment will be open to all at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Fulton, MD immediately following the funeral.

Relatives and friends are welcome for a reception immediately following the interment at Facci Restaurant in Maple Lawn, MD.
