Gary D. Ballard

Gary Dennis Ballard, 79 years old, of Laurel, MD, formerly of Annapolis and Hyattsville, MD died Thursday, February 2, 2023 peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.  The cause of death was Myelodysplastic Syndrome.

He was born October 7, 1943 in Washington, D.C., son of the late Lester and Helen Ballard.  He was a 1961 graduate of Northwestern High School in Hyattsville, MD.  He served in the U.S. Army Reserve from 1963 to 1969        .

In July 1965 Gary married the love of his life Agnes (Aggie) Helen Mosimann.  He was employed by the United States Postal Service (USPS) for 38 years…retiring in April 2000.  He began his career as a part-time flexible employee and retired as the Postmaster of Rockville, MD.  He was the recipient of numerous awards and commendations.  Upon retiring from the USPS, he began a second career…spanning 22 years…as a chauffeur.  Gary enjoyed the racetrack, traveling, washing his cars, yardwork, and going to Washington Redskins football games with his wife, brothers and children.  Most of all, he loved spending time with his family.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Stacey Riley (Chris), and son David Ballard; granddaughter Elizabeth Boula (Jeremy), grandsons Patrick Riley and Benjamin Ballard; great-grandchildren Owen, Elin, and Connor Boula; sister Beverly Cooper, sister-in-law Barbara Ballard, brother Roger Ballard (Mary), sister Lesley Todd (Mark); brother-in-law Thomas Mosimann (Bettsy), sister-in-law Mary (Mitzie) Walker, brothers-in-law Michael and Thomas (Patrick) Mosimann; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends.  He is preceded in death by brother Lester Ballard, brother-in-law Gary Cooper, nephew Matthew Cooper, mother and father-in-law, Josephine and Thomas Mosimann, brother-in-law Richard Walker, sister-in-law Kathie Mosimann.
