George Albert ("Buddy") Bassford

George Albert Bassford II, 80, of Laurel, MD, passed away on June 23rd, 2023.

George, aka Buddy, was born on September 11th, 1942, to Hazel Hagner and John Lee Roy Bassford in Washington, D.C. Buddy attended Glendale High School and graduated in 1961. Buddy would go on to work for the D.C. Children’s Center as an electrician and retired after 30 years of service. Buddy also enjoyed a successful career in Home Inspection and Home Renovation.

In 1962, Buddy met Suzanne Ireland. They married in 1963 and had 2 children, John LeeRoye, in 1966 and Marc Joseph, in 1967.

In 1975, Buddy met Carole Lynn Carrick. They married in 1976. In 1977, Buddy adopted Carole Lynn’s daughter, Lisa. They also had one child together, Michael Adam, in 1978.

Buddy was an avid runner and overall athlete. Buddy completed several marathons, biathlons, and triathlons. Buddy played competitive racquetball for several decades and was also an accomplished pool player having won several individual and team titles in both sports.

Buddy was preceded in death by his younger brother, John Lee Roye, in 1962; his mother in 1988; his father in 2000; his son, Marc Joseph, in 2008; his brother, Robert, in 2010; his son, John LeeRoye II, in 2018 and his grandson, Marc Joseph Jr., in 2020.

He is survived by his son, Michael, and his daughter, Lisa; his grandchildren Tami, Lindsay, Matthew, Schuyler, Marina, Xander, Shelby, Timothy, Alicia, Michelle, Allison, Michael Adam Jr., and Andrew; and his great grandchildren Melani, Gavin, Kaden, McKenzie, Ava, and Emery.

Services will be held at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A., at 313 Talbott Avenue in Laurel, Maryland on July 22nd, 2023, at 11am.
