George Aaron Harley, 93 of Washington, DC passed away on April 25, 2018.
He was born on March 31, 1925 to Jessie Franklin Harley and Cora Allen at the Freedmen’s Hospital in Washington, DC.
A devout catholic George sang in the choir at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Washington, DC before becoming a long-time member of the Shrine of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Washington, DC, where he also served on the Usher Board. He is a Veteran of WWII were he served as an Apprentice Seamen in the US Navy and then as a Military Police Officer in the US Army. George was honorably discharged from Military Service receiving a Good Conduct Medal, an American Theater Ribbon and a World War II Victory Ribbon.
He retired from United State Government Printing Office after over 40 years of service.
George took up photography and spent a great deal of time taking pictures at the National Zoo, Arboretum and Botanical Gardens. He never left home without his camera case and tripod.
He is survived by his devoted daughter Andrea Randall, loving grandchildren- Mariann Escoe and Thomas Chase, Jr., adoring great-grandchildren Miles Escoe, Michael Escoe and Mayah Escoe. He is also survived by a sister Anne Marie Barnes and two brothers Herbert Harley and Ernest Harley, as well as a host loving family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jessie and Cora Harley, a sister Patricia Harley and brothers Jessie Harley, Rene Harley, Allen Harley, Pimmy Harley
Visitation will be on Friday May 4, 2018 from 12pm-1pm at the Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave, Laurel, MD 20707. The funeral service will begin promptly at 1pm with interment at the Marylands Veterans Cemetery at Crownsville.
