George Edward Supsic, beloved father, husband, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, departed this life on February 21, 2025, after more than six years of valiantly battling lung cancer. He was 74.
He is survived by his wife, Laureen; his daughters, Jami (Sean), Lori (John), and Kati; and his six younger siblings, Mary (David), Leonard (Marilyn), Anne Marie (Robert), John (Susan), and Patricia (Jeff). He is also survived by many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his wife of 31 years, Jennifer, and his parents, George and Helen.
Born in Baltimore on February 16, 1951, George was a lifelong Maryland resident and loved many of the blessings the state had to offer—from crabs and the Orioles (a questionable blessing) to Ocean City and the races at Laurel Park. He graduated from Calvert Hall College High School and the University of Maryland, College Park, where he met his best friends Craig Millett and John Hayden. They and their families became cherished, chosen family.
George found his professional passion in entrepreneurship as a successful painting contractor. Over the past 30 years, he was frequently seen driving around Laurel with ladders strapped to the roof of his car and neon bumper stickers adorning the rear.
George had many favorite pastimes, including playing golf with and winning Super Bowl poker against his brothers and Pops; Sundays with the abundant Supsic clan; watching Anderson Cooper with his wife; grilling on the deck; cooking shrimp and ham jambalaya or his famous bread pudding; facetime with his girls and visiting family in Shamokin, PA. He was the host of annual New Year's and Kentucky Derby parties and loved camping in the mountains of Western Maryland. He rode roller coasters, cultivated many varieties of hot peppers and cacti, cut down the family Christmas tree, hunted for sharks' teeth on Topsail Island, North Carolina, and listened devotedly to Bob Marley and The Grateful Dead. He saw The Dead live many times and made sure their concerts were his daughters’ first. Throughout his life, George had many cherished pets, most recently his wild man, Rummy.
An avid traveler, George’s favorite places included Jamaica and New Orleans, but in the second half of his life, he traveled far and wide visiting Australia, Poland, Belgium, Italy, Belize and many other destinations. His last big trip was to San Francisco for his 70th birthday.
George will be remembered by many for his positive waves, his tremendous love of life, and his unwavering devotion to family, friends and faith.
Tremendous and heartfelt thanks go to the many aides, nurses, and doctors who cared for and fought alongside George. He couldn’t have done it without you. George was also deeply grateful for the love and support of his St. Mary of the Mills community, his Mayfair neighbors, and his many kind customers.
In the words of George’s favorite song from his favorite band:
There is a road, no simple highway Between the dawn and the dark of night And if you go, no one may follow That path is for your steps alone.
If you’d like to make a memorial donation in his name, George requested St. Jude’s Research Hospital or the Baltimore Humane Society .
