Gerard Romain, Sr., age 92, passed away in Largo, Maryland on April 1, 2025.
Born June 1, 1932, in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, son of St. Murat Romain and Madam St. Murat Romain.
Gerard was preceded in death by his wife of 47 years Marie, son Herve Ralph, and sister Marie-Thérèse Romain Petit. Gerard is survived by his children Gerald, Michelle, Nicole, Rudy, Gary, Andy, Gerard, Marjorie, Reginald, and Diane. He is also survived by several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and other family members.
Gerard lived in Port-Au-Prince and was the first in his community to attend college to study dentistry. He graduated from the University of Haiti in 1958 with a professional doctorate degree in dentistry. He worked in the Hospital Albert Schweitzer in Haiti. In 1959, Gerard was appointed as a teaching fellow in oral surgery at the School of Dentistry of the University of Pittsburgh under their exchange visitor status.
In 1968, Gerard migrated to the United States with his family to pursue better opportunities. To support his family, he began his second career in the hospitality industry. Gerard worked at the National Lawyers Club, Inc. where he assisted their chef in the restaurant and with their banquets. In later years, he continued employment with other restaurants until his retirement.
Gerard loved WWE wrestling, the Sanford & Son sitcom, and Mexican music. His favorite Mexican artist was Pepe Aguilar. He played his music nonstop for years. Gerard was multi-lingual and spoke four languages (i.e., Haitian Creole, French, Spanish, and English). Gerard loved traveling to Spanish-speaking countries. Most importantly, he loved his family.
Services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, April 19, 2025, at Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD. Internment will be at the Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 13801 Georgia Ave, Silver Spring, MD following the service.
