It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Gladys Mae Becraft at her home in Beltsville, MD, on May 31, 2026, at the age of 82. She was born on March 8, 1944, to Chester and Myrtle Hardisty. She was born at home and always said that her parents paid the doctor the price of her delivery by providing him with half of a hog. Gladys is survived by her husband of 65 years, Alvin Becraft, twin daughters, Laura Becraft and Lenora Becraft, daughter Loretta. She is also survived by her sister Barbara. She is also survived by her grandson, Blake Wright, six grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews and her precious dog, Mandy. She is predeceased by her parents, Chester and Myrtle Hardisty and her brother, Chester Hardisty, Jr.
Gladys met her husband, Alvin Becraft, whom she deeply loved. They were married on December 10,1960 and had twin daughters, Laura and Lenora Becraft and daughter, Loretta. So that she could be a homemaker and raise her children, she earned an income by offering babysitting services. In addition, she began selling Avon on December 10, 1975. She excelled in this endeavor as an Avon Representative and eventually a President Club member for 51 years until her passing.
Gladys had a beautiful voice and sang in the choir in church. She loved and deeply cherished her family and always put them first in her life. She was a strong, lovely, and gentle soul. She loved life and would give or do anything for anyone in need. We will miss all the amazing things she has done in our lives. Until we meet again-we will always love you.
