Glenn Maher, 86, of Laurel, Maryland died on Tuesday, July 17, 2012, at The Residence on Greenbelt in Lanham, Maryland.
Born Sunday, January 24, 1926 in Washington, DC, he was the son of Edward Maher (deceased) and Freida Steinhauser Maher (deceased).
Glenn attended Fishburne Military Academy in Waynesboro, VA graduating in 1944. After graduating from Fishburne Military Academy Glenn enlisted in the United States Navy. After being Honorably Discharged from the Navy, Glenn attended the University of Maryland and received his Bachelor's degree in 1950. After getting his degree, Glen went to work at NSA until he retired in 1979.
Glenn was an avid sports fan. He also enjoyed fishing and crabbing. Glenn was an avid CB radio enthusiast, going by the handle "Maryland Terrapin". After retiring to Florida in the mid 70's Glenn took up breeding Canaries, and was a member of Florida and U.S. Canary Fanciers.
Glenn married Lois Tufts on July 5, 1947 and they made their home in the Washington, DC area, specifically Laurel, MD. They were married for 53 years until Lois passed away on September 10, 2000.
Surviving are sons, Robert E. Maher of Laurel, MD, Mike Maher of Bowie, MD and Tom Maher of Melbourne, FL, and a daughter, Mary Rodon of Merritt Island, FL. Glenn is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 1 great grandchild. Glenn was preceded in death by his half -brother Edmond Maher.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Saturday, July 21, 2012, at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A., 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, Maryland 20707. Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
In lieu of flowers the family suggest donations be made to the American Cancer Society, 801 Roeder Road, Suite 800, Silver Spring, MD 20910.
