Gregory Paul Wood

Gregory Paul Wood, 68, of Greenbelt, Maryland, passed away of natural causes on June 14th, 2023.

Gregory “The Dancing Bear” Wood was born on March 24, 1955, to Margaret Wood (nee Wade) and Milton Griffith Wood, Jr in Cheverly, Maryland. Gregory spent his youth in the Hollywood and College Park, Maryland areas and he graduated from High Point High School in 1973. Upon graduating, he went to work for the city of College Park, and could be seen riding around in his cherished yellow Gremlin enjoying life with his friends.

In April of 1978, he married his best friend, Sheryl Wood (nee Welch). Together they moved to Colorado for a stint in 1980 before moving back to Vienna, Virginia for a year. However, Colorado called them back because in 1987, they adopted their only child, Matthew Wood. After 11 years in Colorado, Gregory moved his family back to Maryland, where he spent the rest of his life.

Gregory spent much of his life working in the automotive industry as a parts salesperson and retired in 2020 after dedicated service at Rising Sun Motors in College Park, Maryland. His favorite color was yellow, he enjoyed time riding around on his Harley, and spending time with family. Gregory is remembered for his big heart, caring nature, loyalty, hard work, and dedication to his family.

Gregory was predeceased by his mother Margaret Wood (nee Wade) and father Milton Griffith Wood, Jr. He is survived by his sisters Deborah (Lt. Col. Michael) McGrath (nee Wood) (Connor, Meghan, Liam); Rebecca (Michael Sr.) Menard (nee Wood) (Michael Jr, Amanda, Luke); and Julie Wood; brother Kenneth (Julie) Wood (Brian, Katie); his only son, Matthew (Anne) and grandchildren, Gabriel, Johnathan, Dominick, and Paisley; and his ex-wife and friend Sheryl Wood (nee Welch).

Services will be held at Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. in Laurel, Maryland at 11am on July 29th, and a celebration of life picnic will follow at American Legion Post 217 in College Park at 1pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Diabetes Association.
