With heavy hearts, we share that Harvey Chew passed away on April 30th 2026 at Sinai Hospital located in Baltimore, Maryland, surrounded by family and loved ones.
Harvey was born on April 23rd 1965 in Washington D.C. and from the very beginning, he brought light, laughter and kindness into the lives of those around him. Growing up in Southern Maryland, Harvey was known for drawing, wearing his fathers fancy hats and most importantly, his passion, playing baseball. He was raised in the church alongside his family, forming a lifelong foundation of faith.
He built a life filled with love, hard work, adventure, and dedication, spending his years as a Landscaper at Andrews Air Force Base under the Clinton Administration. In addition, being a CDL Truck Driver for multiple companies such as Kamco Building Supply, McKesson and Havertys Furniture & Home Decor. During his years being employed by these companies, he met extraordinary people that are now considered close family and now Samantha’s God fathers/Uncles. Harvey loved spending time with his loved ones, especially Barbie, his late wife and his loving daughter, Samantha. All three of them would watch television together, listen and dance to Go-Go music, order Papa John's Pizza on Fridays and go to church on Sundays at Carter’s United Methodist Church and wherever aunt Rev. Hattie Mcduffie was preaching during the time.
Harvey loved watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Boston Celtics, and New York Yankees play on T.V, he was their biggest fan. He had the opportunity to go to (2) Washington Redskins football games and multiple Washington Wizard games. In addition, Harvey loved history and politics, he always taught Samantha the importance of knowledge. Samantha and Havrey watching local new channels and CNN almost every night together. With Harvey's passion for history and politics this influenced Samantha to take a leap into studying Criminal Justice at 2 colleges. Lastly, Harvey was always the life of the party whatever room he stepped in.
Harvey is survived by Samantha Chew (daughter), Charles Jones J.R. (brother), Robert Wilson (brother), Glendora Jones-Cronwell (sister), Sheila Jones-Holiday (sister), Joanne Jones-Skinner (sister), Corey Jones (brother), Rev. Hattie McDuffie (aunt), Frances Brown (aunt), Renne Anderson (sister-in-law), Nellie Powell (sister-in-law), Linda Parker (cousin), Ronald Powell (cousin), Victoria Powell (cousin), Allen Chew (cousin), Cynthia Chew-Williams (cousin), Marsha Chew (cousin), Renee Spriggs (cousin), Joyce Spriggs (cousin), Joseph McCauley (nephew), Kylen Burney (nephew), Tyson Jones (nephew), Austin Jones (nephew), Jade Smith-Burney (great niece), Kaidyn Smith-Burney (great nephew). Asayah Smith (god nephew), Mekai Smith (god nephew), Jade Smith (god niece). Harvey shared a special bond with the above family members that could not be forgotten.
He was preceded in death by Barbie Dorsey (wife), Charles Jones (father), Arvita Chew (mother), Harvey Chew (grandfather), Georgetta Chew (grandmother), Frank Jones (grandfather), Crystal Smith (god daughter), Robert Pavolovich (father-in-law), Mary Pavlovich (mother-in-law), Timothy Jones (brother), Rita Jones (sister), Dorothy Chew (aunt), Margaret Anne Savoy (aunt), Mary Maynard (aunt), Shirley Spriggs (aunt), Lawrence Chew (uncle), Roland Chew (uncle), Melvin Watkins (uncle), Glory Rawlings (cousin), Sheila Chew (cousin), Eugina Parsons (cousin), Maria Gross (cousin), Turan Chew (cousin), Charles Powell (cousin), Duchess Chew (fur baby), Kobe Chew (fur baby).
A viewing to celebrate Harvey’s life will be held at Donaldson Funeral Home PA located at 313 Talbot Ave, Laurel MD on Saturday May 16th 2026 between 11am - 3pm. In addition, it is followed by a memorial at Carter’s United Methodist Church located at 6715 Old Solomons Road, Friendship, Maryland 20758 on Saturday June 27th, 2026, at 1pm, followed with a repass and additional repass at Samantha’s home located in Laurel, Maryland. All who knew and loved him are welcome to attend and share in remembering a life that meant so much to so many.

Though Harvey is no longer physically with us, the love, stories, and spirit will remain in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
