Hayes "Ed" Edward Ricks age 77, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2022.

Born June 19, 1944 in Laurel, Maryland, son of Hayes Middleton Ricks and Mary Ruth (Kraeski) Ricks.  He lived in Laurel, Maryland and worked as the Director of the Family Division of the Superior Court of the District of Columbia.  Ed was a life member of the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department and the Laurel Volunteer Rescue Squad, and was elected and served on the City Council of Laurel, Maryland. Ed also held the honor of Justice of the Peace.

Ed spent his entire life serving the community of Laurel.  One special and memorable way he gave back to the community was bringing joy each Christmas to children by playing Santa Claus.  He enjoyed cooking and entertaining friends and family and he was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.

Ed is survived by brother, Robert Ricks and his wife, Linda; brother, Paul Ricks and his wife, Denise; nephews: Aaron Ricks, Ryan Ricks, and Kyle Ricks; niece, Lindsay (Ricks) Beil; great nieces: Everly Ricks and Taylor Beil; great nephew, Milo Ricks; and many friends who Ed considered family.

Ed was preceded in death by parents: Hayes Ricks and Ruth Ricks, and brother, Ronald Ricks.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 12, 2022 from 10:00am-12:00pm at Laurel Volunteer Fire Department Station 10, 7411 Cherry Ln, Laurel, MD 20707. A service will be held immediately following at 12:00pm at the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department with a procession to internment after the service. Internment will take place at St. Mary of the Mills Catholic Church, 114 St Marys Pl, Laurel, MD 20707 at 2:00pm. Following internment, relatives and friends are invited back to the Laurel Volunteer Fire Department for a reception.
