Hester Bernice (Poe) Paris

Hester Bernice Paris, age 89, of Laurel, MD passed away on January 7, 2015.

Hester was born on January 7, 1926 in Waynesboro, PA to the late Maxwell Poe and the late Onia (nee Strosnider) Poe.  Hester was raised across the border in Hagerstown, Maryland and graduated from Hagerstown High.  After graduating, Hester worked for the phone company and was employed as a telephone operator.  In the early 1950’s Hester moved to Laurel after receiving a promotion as Chief Telephone Operator in Laurel.  While working in Laurel she met her husband, Robert Paris, while he was in the Army and stationed at Ft. Meade.  She and Robert were married in 1954.  Hester left her job with the phone company in 1958 to raise her family.  After her children were in school, Hester went back to work as a teacher’s aide for the Prince George’s County Public School System.  She was also very active in her church; Hope Lutheran Church in College Park, MD.

Mrs. Paris was the beloved wife of the late Robert Paris and the loving mother of; Mason (and his wife Julie) Paris of Hampstead, MD, Kevin (and his wife Norma) Paris of Severn, MD and Michelle Paris Mitchem of Columbia, MD.  Hester was the sister of Agnes Robinson of Dover, DE and the late Nancy Faith.  Hester was also survived by 6 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
