Ishmael B. Sandlin

Ishmael B. Sandlin, 91, of Sunrise of Columbia died on 3 July 2018. He was born 26 August 1926 in Sumiton, Alabama the son of Randolph and Lydie Sandlin. He attended Dora High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy on 8 August 1944. While serving in the Navy during WW II he participated in campaigns in North Africa and was later stationed near London, England. For his service he was awarded the American Campaign Ribbon, European-African-Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, and the Victory Ribbon, World War II. Upon his separation from the U.S. Navy he received an Honorable Discharge on 12 March 1947.

He joined Eastern Airlines as a Flight Attendant on 23 November 1948 and flew all over the country and the world. He met and married his beautiful wife Althea Fenikis, a stewardess for Eastern Airlines, in 1954. He again served his country honorably while ferrying troops to/from Vietnam during the Vietnam War. He retired from Eastern Airlines on 31 January 1986 with over 37 years of faithful and dedicated service.

While living in retirement in Inverness, Florida he and Althea enjoyed their life of leisure. He especially enjoyed his favorite pastime, GOLF.

He is survived by his son Paul Michael Sandlin and his daughter Diane Sandlin Senozan. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Althea Fenikis Sandlin; his brothers Vollie Sandlin, Oliver Sandlin, and Buck Sandlin; his sisters Eunice Sandlin, Clarice Sandlin, Avis Suchey, Bernice Johnson, and Bobbie Tucker.

Services will be held at the Donaldson Funeral Home Chapel in Laurel, MD on Monday 9 July at 11:00 am. Burial (with military honors) will be at the Baltimore National Cemetery on Monday 9 July at 1:00 pm.
