James Earl Brown

The following obituary was lovingly submitted by the family of James E. Brown.

James “Jim” Brown, 74 passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Thursday, October 6, 2022.

Jim was born in Laurel, MD on September 19, 1948, to the late Bernard and Helen (Chesgreen) Brown. Jim lived in Laurel his entire life until moving to the Eastern Shore in 2003.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Lowanda (Ingram) Brown, his sons Chris and Keith Brown, daughter in law Julie Brown, grandchildren Ashley Brown, Kristen Brown Ghrist (Austin), Cassidy Brown, and James “Brent” Brown all of Kent Island, MD and a brother Ronald Brown along with many other loving relatives. He was a graduate of Glenelg High School with the class of 1967. After graduation, he served in the U.S. Army in the 101st Airborne, and 17th Air Cavalry serving in The Vietnam War. During his time serving in the army, he earned many awards and decorations including the Bronze Star. After being honorably discharged as a sergeant from the Army, he returned to Laurel, Maryland to continue operating Laurel Equipment Rental, the business he started with his father at the age of 16.

He was a member of the Laurel Elks Lodge # 2283 where he held many positions including Exalted Ruler. He was also a member of the American Legion in Laurel, Maryland.

While Jim’s true love was his bride, Lowanda, he also loved the game of golf, and was an avid player throughout his life. He was an extremely hard worker who mentored many family members throughout his life including his nieces and nephews. He had immense love for his family, extended family, and friends that will always be remembered. His brothers, Paul and Bernie Brown, and his sister Elaine Ratcliff, preceded him in death.
