James Edward Corcoran

James Edward Corcoran (Corky), of Wheaton, passed away at the age of 81.

He was born in 1943 to James Melville Corcoran M.D. and Catherine Hassett in Staunton, VA.

Jimmy’s passion was car racing.  He was a member of the Sports Car Club of America for 59 years.  He raced a TR-3 at Marlboro, later raced a Pinto at Summit Point, & crewed for many fellow drivers.  During that time he was also a Flag Chief and was a mentor to many volunteers.  When he retired from racing, he joined the Registration group so he could stay involved with his racing family.

He served in the Navy as a Midshipman.  He retired from IBM after 32 years of service.  He enjoyed watching war movies, cross word puzzles, and traveling.

James is survived by his daughter Sherise Smouse (Kenneth); his brother Michael Corcoran (Tina), sister Kathleen Pagans (Curtis), brother Thomas Corcoran (Michelle); and a niece and many nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother Catherine & father James Corcoran, and more recently by his brother Patrick Corcoran.
