James R Kirchner

James Russell Kirchner, 60, of Hanover passed away peacefully on Friday, April 25, 2025.

Jim was born on August 28, 1964 to Francis and Wilma (Brown) Kirchner in Washington, D.C. He was a graduate of the University of Maryland, College Park, and was a librarian at the Laurel Library for many years. He retired from the Prince George’s County Memorial Library System in 2023. Jim loved science fiction, military history, and aviation. He enjoyed attending science fiction conventions and was an avid collector of rare airplane model kits. He also enjoyed traveling with his brother John to visit beautiful natural landscapes, museums, and sites of historic interest across the United States.

Jim is survived by his brother Robert, sister-in-law Mary, niece Christine, and nephew Daniel. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brother John. An interment service will be held on Saturday, May 17, 2025 at the columbarium of St. Mary of the Mills Cemetery (114 St Marys Pl, Laurel, MD 20707).
