James Frederick Ritter, age 90, of the Scaggsville area of Laurel, MD, died on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at Harmony Hall Assisted Living in Columbia, MD.

James was born on March 24, 1925 to the late George Frederick Ritter and the late Catherine (nee Smith) Ritter.  James was born and raised in Marriottsville, MD.  When James married the late Doris Ritter (nee Scaggs) they moved to Baltimore for 2 years, and then to Scaggsville, where Doris was a lifetime resident for 62 years.  James was very active at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church including serving as head usher.  He was an active volunteer with the Howard County 4H, serving as Superintendent of the sheep department at the Howard County Fair.  James was employed by the Johns Hopkins Applied Physics Lab, retiring in 1990 after 27 years.

James was the loving father of Diane Moore (and her husband John) and son Keith Ritter (and his wife Loretta).  James was the brother of Alice Spurrier.  He is also survived by 4 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.  James was preceded in death by his parents and his beloved wife Doris.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, September 6, 2015 from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A., 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD 20707.  A funeral service will be held at the Emmanuel United Methodist Church, 10755 Scaggsville Road, Laurel, MD 20723 on Monday, September 7, 2015 beginning at 10:00 AM.  Interment will follow at the church cemetery.
