Janet Renee Perryman-Butler

Janet Renee Perryman-Butler was born July 31, 1961 in Omaha, Nebraska and she was the first child of Jimmie and Geraldine Perryman. At an early age, Janet actively participated and devoutly attended Morning Star Baptist Church with her parents, and she was baptized at an early age. Janet was educated with the Omaha Public School system starting from kindergarten to the twelfth grade. Janet was later joined by new additions to the Perryman family by two younger brothers, Bernard and Lawrence. Throughout her academic upbringing, Janet excelled academically and various extracurricular school activities with performing arts programs, marching band, debate team, and many more. After graduating from Central High School in 1979, Janet was accepted, pursued, and achieved a bachelor of science degree in Medical Technologist from Creighton University. Throughout her career, Janet received various certificates related to the medical technology field and other medical related fields. During her pursuit of a bachelors at Creighton University, Janet actively became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority and participated in various theatrical plays and other academic related clubs.

After a few years after working as a Phlebotomist and then a Medical Technologist at St. Joseph Hospital, Janet met, courted, and married Air Force man, Calvin Butler. Her then husband was transferred to San Antonio, Texas and then later to Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. While a couple through marriage, they had Janet’s only child, Ahsha Jamilah Butler. While in the Maryland area, Janet decided to make her family home in the state of Maryland. For the next 27 years, Janet worked for the Department of Health and Human Services. During this time, Janet was a very devoted member at the Church of Greater Commission along with the Tabernacle Church of Laurel churches which she attended.

Janet contributed her time and resources towards the community by volunteering for various agencies ranging from the Girl Scouts, her church, homeless shelter in Laurel, and others throughout the area for many years. During her spare time, Janet enjoyed floral arrangements, hydrangeas, baking, photography, attending and participating in various performing art events, She also had a passion for listening to Gospel music. Some of Janet’s favorite musicians ranged from Yolanda Adams, Mahalia Jackson, the Johnson Brothers, Bernard Wright and even a few trap songs which were introduced to her by her grandchildren. Janet’s true joy of her life was spending time with her daughter, her four grandchildren, family members, and extended relatives.

Preceded in death by mother, Geraldine Perryman; father, Jimmie Perryman; brother, Lawrence Perryman.

Survived by brother, Bernard Perryman (Omaha, NE), daughter, Ahsha J. Butler (Laurel, MD), four grandchildren: Mahkayla, Malachi (twins), Elijah, and Marlee; two God children: Salim Woodhouse and Ellington Woodhouse; aunts, uncles and multiple cousins.
