Jean S. Allen

Jean Allen, age 91, of Laurel, MD, passed away after a brief illness Friday, February 23, 2024 in Columbia, MD.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 2, 2024, 12:00 pm at the Donaldson Funeral Home, 313 Talbott Ave, Laurel, MD, with interment to follow at the Ivy Hill Cemetery, 1201 Sandy Spring, Laurel, MD.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the American Heart Association .

Jean Sally Allen was born April 2, 1932 in Mingo County, West Virginia to James and Angela (Curry) Varney. She was the youngest of four siblings.

In 1947, she married Bruce Allen in Mingo County, West Virginia. They resided for several years in Delbarton, West Virginia where Bruce was a coal miner. They then moved to Chicago, Illinois where Bruce attended electronics school. After a short stay in Virginia, they purchased a home and raised their family in Laurel, MD where Jean lived until her death.

Jean was a wonderful homemaker, devoted to caring for her family. She was determined that her children have happy, successful lives. She loved nothing better than Sunday afternoon dinners with her family, and they will miss her roast beef and green beans. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, and she was thrilled to be a great grandmother.

Jean is survived by three children: Eva Johnson, Bruce (Wendy) Allen, and Paul (Karen) Allen, six grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, siblings Geneva Vasquez, Noah Varney, and Herbert Varney; husband Bruce, and daughter Glenna.
