Jim Snyder

June 28, 1946 — March 1, 2017


James William Snyder passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2017 in Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.  He was 70.  Jim was born to James and Ada Snyder on June 28th, 1946 in Blairsville, Pennsylvania.  He was raised in Laurel, MD and graduated from Laurel High School in 1964.  He and his cousin Fred joined the US Army on the same day in 1966. He was stationed in Thailand and Panama.  Upon his discharge in 1970, he went to work for the US Postal Service.  Jim also worked for Home Depot for many years and was a talented carpenter.  He restored and renovated many homes in Laurel and Roanoke, Virginia.

Jim loved music and played his guitar in several bands in the Laurel area with his good friend, Glenn Quillen.

He was a great storyteller and made friends wherever he went.  Jim loved to cook and everyone looked forward to his famous mac and cheese.  He enjoyed playing pool and had recently taken up playing golf and shuffle bowling in his retirement.

Jim is survived by his wife, Vickey and his children, James Travis (Linda) and Lori (Brian), and his stepson, Travis Armstrong (Beth).  He is also survived by eight grandchildren, Emily, Michael, Jameson, Kamdyn, Reilyn, Amber, Cassie and Heath.  He is also survived by his mother, Ada, his sister Diane, and his two brothers, Billy and Jeffrey and numerous cousins, nephews and nieces.  Jim was predeceased by his father James (June) and his nephew, Andy.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at 2PM at Donaldson Funeral Home.
