She was born, she lived, she was reborn and then she was given back her wings to fly and soar high above. To do what she does best protect, love, serve the people she loves the most, to make sure they are okay. Sounds simple enough and that is the essence of what she was. She…who is she? JOAN MARIE BLOUNT. On August 5, 1955, the world was blessed with an Angel. On November 14, 2016 God needed his Angel back and she was called home. She was the daughter of the late Ross Mckinley Blount and the late Leotha Blount (nee Jackson). She was generous from the day of her birth sharing her birthday with her twin, Jean Myrna Blount whom she so graciously allowed to enter first. Joan was number 11 of 14 children. She was born in the borough of Queens, in the city of New York.
Joan was preceded in death by her brother Fred Blount, her brother Cary Blount, her sister Vionne Blount and her sister Debby Blount. She is survived by her daughter Lauren Kellman, 5 grandchildren, Kayla, Alyssa, James, Kenneth and Mya. She is also survived by her sisters Sandra, Carolyn, Shirley, Jean and Binky and her brothers Earl, John, Donald and Antoine. She is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews.
Joan began her schooling at P. S. 155, and then she went to JHS 271 and graduated from Prospect Heights High school. She continued on to complete two years of college and then she put that on hold to raise her daughter Lauren Kellman. Education was always a priority to Joan. She educated herself in many ways. She took various courses throughout her life to make her a well-rounded individual. She took nutrition courses, writing classes, karate classes, self-defense classes and later in life during her epic battle she took exercise classes accented with a personal trainer. She was completely fearless and her mind was always open to new experiences.
The last course that she took was momentous. She embarked on a journey to educate herself about herself. She enrolled in a course that would completely change the course of her last days. Her motto was always I am here to be of service to others, if you are not of service to others what is the point. Through momentum education Joan was able to learn how to serve others but also serve herself. She embodied all that was beauty and grace in that process as well. She embarked on this journey of self-awareness, reflection and change with the reverence and fearlessness that she did everything with. During this time Joan was able to do things that in her mind she always thought she feared and that was to SKYDIVE. She spent many years playing tennis, but going skydiving was her greatest feat. She went up in that air and soared like the angel she is now. To have known her you would have had the privilege and honor to know a woman who was classy, graceful, funny, selfless, kind, caring, a mother, sister, friend, teacher, grandmother to only name a few of the roles that she embodied in this lifetime and did them with absolute style. She is the epitome of an Angel walking the earth and will truly be missed.
TO BE ABSENT FROM THE BODY IS TO BE PRESENT WITH THE LORD!!!!!!!!
