Joan Lorraine Brannan
Age 75, died on Sunday, May 20th, 2012 at her home in Clarksville, MD.
Joan was born on November 5th, 1936, in Washington, DC and lived her younger years in Avondale, Maryland. Only child of Edward and Eileen Ellis. She attended Northwestern High School where she met Charles Thomas Brannan and married on her 19th birthday, November 5th, 1955. She worked for the Vice President of AT&T until becoming a homemaker for 4 children and 5 foster children. She later returned to the work force and was a legal secretary for 15 years.
She was an avid volunteer with her God given talent for organization. Dedicating many years to the "Meals on Wheels" organization by leading routes and volunteers to deliver food to the housebound needy in the Calverton and Beltsville area. An active member of the North Silver Spring Lions Club where she led fund raisers such as fashion shows, food sales, yard sales to raise money for their charitable organizations. Joan was known for her greeting card thoughtfulness and became the Hospitality Chairman at her church.
Joan thoroughly enjoyed gardening, painting, cutting grass on the tractor, and sitting on her front porch to watch the birds. Reading books, sewing and crocheting were her passionate hobbies. She crocheted numerous baby blankets for her grandchildren and her nieces and nephews children. Joan loved her children and grandchildren deeply and devoted her life to her family.
She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles T. Brannan, 4 children: Pamela Ann Kilcullen, Stephen Edward Brannan, W. Scott Brannan and Valerie Lynn Brannan Tsompanas , 9 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
