John J. "Jack" Keating

John J. "Jack" Keating, Jr., 87 of Laurel, Maryland died on Thursday, October 3, 2013, at his residence in Laurel, Maryland.

Jack was born November 12, 1925, in Oklahoma; he was the son of John Keating, Sr. (Deceased) and Elisabeth Jonval Keating (deceased).

Jack was raised in New York City and attended Fordham University. Jack's studies at Fordham were interrupted by WWII and it was then that Jack's career with the Navy began. Jack spent time in the Pacific Theater during WWII. After being discharged from the Navy, Jack returned to Fordham University to complete his undergraduate degree in 1948. Jack went on to graduate from Fordham University Law School in 1951 and soon took a job with the Department of Justice in Washington, DC. Jack was then recalled into the Navy during the Korean War and he spent time in Japan. After being discharged from active duty Jack remained in the Naval Reserves retiring from the military with over 20 years of distinguished service to his county. After Korea, Jack's professional life took him back to the Department of Justice as an attorney. He later transferred to the Department of Energy finally retiring in 1993 with over 40 years of work for the Federal Government.

Some of Jack's proudest accomplishments were being awarded the rank of Eagle Scout, serving as President of the Fordham Club (Alumni Association), and serving as the 1st President of the St. Columba Catholic School PTA in Oxon Hill, MD.

Jack was the beloved husband of Joan Keating, the loving father of Deidre Keating Vogel and her husband Dale, Peter Michael Keating and his wife Sharon, Tara Woods and her husband Ron and Joan Lorraine Keating. Jack is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Jack was preceded in death by his sons; John Keating, III and Terence Keating, his grandson Calvin Shifflett and his sisters; Marie Keating and Delores Keating Derrom.

A visitation was held on Tuesday, October 8, 2013 from 7-9 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A., 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, Maryland 20707. A Mass of Christian Burial was Celebrated at 11:00 AM on Wednesday, October 9, 2013 at St. Nicholas Catholic Church. Interment followed in Gate of Heaven Cemetery, Silver Spring, MD.
