September 11, 1947 to January 19, 2016. John Edward Jarels, a long time Howard County resident, passed away on January 19, 2016, at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, surrounded by his two son-in-laws, his three children, and all their love. He was born in Washington, DC, to the late John and Virginia (Haines) Jarels. He was a graduate from Central High School in Seat Pleasant, and attended PG Community College, University of Maryland, and Frostburg University. He served in the US Navy Air Reserve, and was a member of the Kennedy Center. He enjoyed being a loving father, bragging about his kids, and Sunday dinners at Olive Garden with his children. His home office/lab was his hobby, where he invented things, taught his children life lessons, enjoyed being an amateur radio operator, and showed home movies. He was also the creator of several patents that shared his name. He started his career of digital signal processing and radio frequency engineering at Racal Communications, where he worked for over 20 years. He then started his own company called JJ Consulting services, and finally retired from the Boeing Company. He was a wonderful presence in his family’s lives, and a fine example of how one should behave in a family, at work, in a community, and at play. He will be remembered. Journey well, John Edward Jarels, you left your legacy with your proud and loving children and granddaughter, who want to carry on your quest for adventure, and to learn and grow from all life has to offer. No matter how long the wait is, until we meet again, we know you will be waiting for us. He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Carolyn Jarels, loving devoted children, Jennifer Anne Shrader (Eric O’Keefe), John Joseph Jarels, and Wendy Elizabeth Prickett and her husband Robert, granddaughter Hannah Shrader, and sister Henrietta Supko.
