John Ralph Kerr, 100, of Dayton, Maryland, passed away Friday, July 25, 2014. Born November 13, 1913 in Mt. Ulla, North Carolina, he was the son of John Roy Kerr and Minnie Belk Kerr.
Born a farmer, John moved to Washington DC in 1936 and became a freight auditor with what is now known as the General Accountability Office. He served as an airplane mechanic during World War II. John enjoyed photography, gardening, square dancing and playing bridge.
In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his wife, Cecile Wilson Kerr, brothers Raymond, Robert, Marvin, Roy and Kenneth and sister Alma.
John is survived by his children Richard (Cheryl) Kerr and Jacqueline (James) Darmody; his grandchildren Steven and Michael Kerr and Christopher and Claire Darmody; his brother Clifford Kerr and sisters Josephine Hunter and Katherine Morrison.
Funeral services will be held at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, 2150 Mount View Road, Marriottsville, Maryland on Saturday, August 9 at noon.
