John R. Mitchell

John “John Man” Robert Mitchell of Laurel, Maryland passed away in his home on April 21, 2024.  He was born June 21, 1996 to Thomas Mitchell and Mary Mitchell in Silver Spring, Maryland.  He graduated from Freestate ChalleNGe Academy with his high school diploma in 2013.

John, the baby of the family, left a lasting impression with his infectious smile and endearing dimples. From a young age, his fearlessness shone through as he eagerly dove into swimming pools as a toddler and transformed his bedroom into an adventurous jungle gym alongside his older brothers.  Additionally, he embraced the thrill of skateboarding, dedicating many years to the sport.  Throughout his teenage years, John's affinity for animals became legendary, a passion that persisted into adulthood, earning him the title of an "animal whisperer."

John's absence leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family and close companions. He will be cherished for his tender spirit, unwavering dedication to those he loved, and his subtle yet powerful kindness.

He is survived by his mother, Mary Frances Mitchell; his siblings, Meghan Marie Mitchell (James Gerken), Lily Jane Lovejoy (also known as Thomas Joseph Mitchell), Mary Frances Harvey (Trevor Harvey), Daniel Patrick Mitchell, and David Stephen Mitchell; niece, Elena Marie Harvey; and girlfriend, Paola Marquez.  He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas Joseph Mitchell.

Visitation at St. Jerome Catholic Church on Wednesday, May 1, 2024 at 10:00am.

Open Casket viewing available for those who wish from 10:00am-10:30am

Funeral mass at 11:00am.
