John Bruce Murphy

John Bruce Murphy, 90, passed away peacefully at home in Laurel, MD on August 28, 2023.  He was born May 25, 1933 in Washington D.C. to William and Elsie Murphy.

He lived in Laurel all his life.  He worked for the United States Army and retired as a Colonel.  John enjoyed traveling, specifically to the beach and eating good meals.  He was also a member of the American Legion and First United Methodist Church of Laurel.

John is survived by his children, John Murphy, Jr, Carolyn Grenman, Michael Murphy, Mark Murphy, Shawn Murphy and Sandy Weaver, sister Nan Newman, 8 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Nellie Murphy, his son David Murphy, and grandson, Clayton Murphy.

A visitation will be held on Friday, September 1, at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A., 313 Talbott Ave, Laurel, MD 20707 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm.  A funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 2, at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. Chapel at 10 am.  A graveside service with military honors will immediately follow to Ivy Hill Cemetery, 1201 Sandy Spring Road, Laurel, MD 20707.
