John Harrison Tinker, of Laurel, MD, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 30, 2013, at Gilchrist Hospice Care after a courageous fight with cancer. He was 65. John was born April 18, 1947. He graduated from Wheaton High School in 1965 and is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Norma Tinker.
John is survived by Diane, his loving wife of 33 years; sons Richard, Bryan, and Sean; daughters-in-law Terri and Jennifer; granddaughters, Alison, Kayla, and Morgan; and brother Robert and sister-in-law Claire. John absolutely adored his granddaughters and was passionate about sports. In high school John lettered in basketball and track, and in his time spent at Bridgewater College, VA, John also played basketball. He especially enjoyed watching Washington Redskins games with his sons.
John and Diane met at the Washington Suburban Sanitation Commission (WSSC) where John worked for over 30 years until retirement. They enjoyed playing volleyball together on a recreational league. Later, prior to his illness, John was an assistant branch manager at K Bank for a number of years.
A private cremation was held. The family will receive friends at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A., 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD 20707 on Monday, February 4, 2013 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. A memorial service celebrating John's life will be held in the funeral home chapel on Tuesday, February 5, 2013 at 11 AM.
