Joseph “Joey” Patrick Burns

June 17, 1986 – March 29, 2025

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Joseph “Joey” Patrick Burns, who left us far too soon at the age of 38. Born on June 17, 1986, Joey brought joy, laughter, and light to everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.

A talented golfer, Joey found peace on the green, perfecting his swing and enjoying the camaraderie of the game. His love for music was unmatched—an exceptional pianist, he had the rare ability to play by ear, filling any space with fun and beautiful melodies. He also had a deep love for cats, cherishing their companionship and gentle presence.

Joey loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing, where he found tranquility. He also had a knack for tinkering, always taking things apart and putting them back together, finding joy in figuring out how things worked.

The love of outdoors and tinkering lead him to his career of Certified pool technician. He could restore any pool to pristine condition and repair any mechanical issues that came his way.

His sense of humor was one of his greatest gifts. With a quick wit and an infectious laugh, he could make anyone smile, no matter the circumstance. His warmth, kindness, and ability to light up a room will never be forgotten. To know him was to love him.

Joey is survived by his loving parents, Joseph P. Burns and Michelle Heckendorn (Lee); his sisters: Sarah Burns, Colleen Piacentine (Jim), and Sheila Burns; his beloved nieces: Lauren and Meghan Piacentine; and his aunts and uncles: Lui and Rog Parkin, Doug and Patti Spencer, Bill and Sherri Spencer, and Pat Kava. He is also survived by his cousins: Laura Spencer and Stephen Spencer and his family, along with many dear friends who will cherish his memory forever.

He was predeceased by his grandparents: Leonard and Lois Spencer, and Joseph and Ernestine Burns, as well as his cousin, Nic Karisko, who was less of a cousin and more like a brother. Joey was also preceded in death by his beloved cat, Krazie, who was by his side for nearly 19 years.

His presence in our lives was a gift, and while he may no longer be with us in body, his laughter, love, and music will echo in our hearts forever.

A celebration of Joey’s life will be planned at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Joey’s memory to the Brain Trauma Foundation or to any animal adoption/rescue of your choice.

Rest easy, Joey—you will always be loved.
