Joyce W. Emery

Joyce Winifred (Prins) Emery, age 86, of Laurel, MD, passed away on Saturday, August 19, 2017.  She was preceded in death by Leo Emery, her husband of 64 years.  She is survived by children Lynnda, Randall (Cathy), Marshall (Cindy), Derek (Gayre), and Matthew (Julie).   She is also survived by eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by one grandchild.

Mrs. Emery was raised in upstate New York and graduated from the State University of New York (SUNY) at Oneonta.  She served as a fulltime homemaker when Leo worked at the National Security Agency because he traveled for his work. Then, she was a fulltime active partner in the family art supply and framing businesses.  Her last business, The Laurel Art Center, closed in 2012.

Joyce was active in community service activities for over 60 years.  She was active in stewardship and committees at the Laurel Presbyterian Church.  Mrs. Emery served in fundraising and board functions in the Laurel Boys and Girls Club in the 1960’s and 1970’s.  She was a donor to SUNY Oneonta and supported their educational growth.  She supported national wildlife programs and collected waterfowl stamps and art.

Services are scheduled at the Donaldson Funeral Home, P.A. with visitation on Sunday, August 27, 2017 from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM at the funeral home, 313 Talbott Avenue, Laurel, MD 20707.  Funeral service is scheduled at the Donaldson Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, August 28, beginning at 1:00 PM.
